Railing Installation

The staircase transformation that changes everything

From traditional wood to sleek cable systems — new railing work transforms one of your home's most visible and frequently-touched surfaces

Railing Styles

Choose your aesthetic

Traditional Wood

Turned or square balusters in oak, poplar, or pine — painted or stained. The classic New England staircase.

Metal Balusters

Iron or steel balusters with wood handrail and newel. Adds architectural depth without sacrificing warmth.

Cable Railing

Stainless cable between wood or metal posts. Open, contemporary, and structurally strong.

Railing Styles

Choose your aesthetic

01

Most visible feature in your entryway

The staircase is often the first thing visitors see — and dated or damaged railing makes the whole space feel tired.

02

Safety compliance

Rhode Island code requires specific baluster spacing, height, and grip profiles. Old railings often don't meet current code.

02

Style upgrade without renovation

New railing transforms the staircase without touching the structure. One of the highest visual-impact renovations per dollar.

02

Structural integrity restored

Wobbly, cracked, or loose railings are a safety hazard. We correct structural issues as part of the installation.

02

Adds measurable home value

Updated staircases are consistently noted in home appraisals and buyer feedback as a standout feature.

"Most homeowners don't realize how much one staircase renovation changes the entire feel of their home."

FAQ

Railing Questions

01

What railing styles do you install?

We install traditional wood, metal balusters, cable railing, and mixed wood-and-metal systems. We help you choose based on your aesthetic and the structural requirements of your staircase.
02

Can you replace only the balusters and keep the existing handrail?

Often yes. If the handrail and newel post are in good condition, we can swap just the balusters to dramatically change the look. We assess each case individually.
03

Do railings need to meet code requirements?

Yes. Railing height, baluster spacing (no more than 4 inches), and handrail grip profile are all governed by Rhode Island building code. All our work meets or exceeds these requirements.
04

How long does railing installation take?

A typical staircase takes 1–2 days. Complex or multi-level railings with custom elements take longer. We provide a specific timeline after the estimate visit.
05

Do you paint or stain the railing after installation?

We offer painted finishes for iron and metal balusters, and stained finishes for wood components. Finish work is included in our quotes unless otherwise noted.
